Without transmission lines on the list I won't bother voting.

And without getting too exotic, you could also add horns.

Another transmission line fan here, too.

TL and Horns added to the poll.
The option to change your vote still stands.

1/4 wave folded transmission line for deep bass 16-80hz. Open baffle with servo control for 16-200 hz.

Ok this is the first thread throwing into doubt my plan to build my brahma 15's into an OB sub. Maybe I should just put them into a couple sealed boxes?

My take was that OB was superior, unless you have 4 or more sealed subs. I'm so confused now.

Why would OB be superior? You have to boost the bass, equalize it to get anything. Boosting also means more distortion, because you are moving the woofer(s) farther.

Not just that ob bass is the finest of all, but that ob servo bass is untouchable. That has been a key concept for me since joining this forum.

True, servo is great, but it's not limited to OB. You can add it along with its benefits to any bass alignment. I even remember reading DIY servo articles in audioXpress and other magazines.

OB servo is great under the right conditions. Overall, I find sealed to be a solution that can work in any room. The different solutions for bass are implemented in unique ways so the question really should be asking about a specific situation. Multiple subs has been the best I've encountered, you can even mix ported/sealed if you're doing it properly.

That is not necessarily true for music only systems.

OB fans like the huge 3D soundstage.
IF the room is small EQ may no be necessary, anyway you can use a Big 18inches woofer as the AcousticsElegance with 2 VC for 4 or 16 ohms.

Obviously big drivers will pressurize the room.

But the sound waves (that typically are much bigger than the room) from OB/IB reminds me of putting 4 inches of water in the bath tub and moving your hand back and forth along the length of the tub at different frequencies and watching the additive standing waves (peaks and dips).

Same effect from any single bass source, but OB/IB would be worse with less side wall effects.

All you OBs tooting your horns, but still lagging in the voting column.

So why would an OB be better than this? Well except for the obvious, if you ever decided to move.

It seems that the implementation is the key, as opposed to the type. The best bass (to my ears and many others) at the RMAF was the servo controlled bass in the GR-Research Super V.  Normally I like the quickness of sealed subs, but the servos make them sound slow.  Also, usually ported speakers are not as clean, but the LS6 and LS9 are both ported line sources that have cleaner bass than any sealed speaker that I've ever heard.

Careful Æ, if you keep baiting them one post over on the OB circle and your carefully constructed house of cards might come tumbling down.  Voting is open until 12/20/11.

Bass reflex. A passive radiator is just a port substitute.
