probably 90% here use amarra, pure music or decibel. i think they all have free trials, so pick what you like.

Bitperfect is what I have on my mm, and it is very impressive and easy to use. Ratso mentioned the free trials. Try a couple and see what floats your boat.

Good Luck,
JCarney

Slight OT in regards to older mini with SL,   but what's the latest word on issues with Lion and music players?

Circumstances forced me to wait until now to start planning/shopping for a stripped down  Mini as dedicated music server, and even if earlier versions with SL were still available used / refurbished, I'd probably still prefer to go for new.

Further,  is there a consensus as to memory/drive configuration of the Mini itself and types of outboard file storage?  I haven't actually decided into which of two systems the unit will be installed, so DAC will be either in HT receiver (via HDMI), or separate audio only system with Citypulse (via Toslink) - the latter is slated for replacement with something like HRT Musicstreamer or Peachtree DACiT.

Nice configuration for the Mini.

The Empirical link is kind of dated, though. And I quite disagree with item #2 on his list.

I almost included a comment in earlier post about the velocity with which the computer audio world changes, and am not hubristic enough yet to disagree with any of the computer audio gurus, but there were at least a couple on the list I might not agree with either.

I forgot to mention long terms plans to acquire PureVinyl for archiving of a few hundred LPs ( haven't spun the Rega3 in at least 2 years) - so the question should really be if current concerns I've seen expressed regarding Lion vis a vis "aftermarket players" are bona fide and/or yet resolved?

I can't say, as I haven't upgraded my music machine to Lion. I do know that Amarra's latest rev2.32 is supposed to be Lion-friendly, but I don't know how it sounds.

My current favorite is Audirvana Plus http://audirvana.com/.  It has iTunes integration and supports Apple Remote app.  The upsampling method also actually seems to improve the sound.

I use PM and it works great. I converted all my FLACS to AIFF but of course the conversion did not go as well as I would of liked. Does anyone use FLACS on Pure Music? I'm curious since I would like to go back to FLACS in the hope my library will be more complete.

i also decided life with a mac would be easier with apple lossless. got about 2 hours into trying to convert my flac files and gave up. any program i tried was either SLOW or buggy as hell. (xld worked but took forever and you can only process one file at a time. max was faster but when i tried to convert multiple files it skipped most of them. and of course, you can't get dbpoweramp on mac).

flac on PM works great for me. the main reason i would like apple lossless is to drag and drop onto my ipod without having to do a bunch of file converting.

I have the new PM on my new version of Spatial and it plays flac, sounds great.
I us dbpoweramp on my MAC by using a program called Parallel. The dbpoweramp batch convert is not real fast, but its just set up, start and walk away.

Just curious. . .MacMini (OSX 10.6) as music (ONLY) server, and ran across this post at Empirical recommending this link to a music rip/player.  Looks nice, but. . .does anyone have any experience with this download and how well it works?  Also, any additional suggestions will be greatly appreciated. (Know about Pure Music and Decible)
