Hey, aren't you being kind of mean? Take a look at my reply, definitely worse than some of the others. However mine was certainly intended as tongue-in-cheek.

Hi: I thought your post was pretty funny actually and obviously meant in fun. Another option might be to do what some seem to see as a solution - Sell them on Ebay as NOS...

I'm all for fun and I appreciate and support your concern for maintaining civility. That being said, if you read my first post, was there anything "mean" about it ?  Did it justify the commentary from Wayner which followed it? And do you agree with the idea of him backpedalling after he gets called on it by attempting to camouflage sarcasm as benevolent concern for others while continuing to disrespect opinions that don't mesh with his own ?
I'm not mean by nature but I do not respond well to bullying. Some may see that as a character flaw. If it is, then consider me to be deeply flawed...

I used to work for the California Department of Toxic Substances Control.  Audio vacuum tubes were not regulated when I worked there.  I called up their Regulatory Assistance Officer to find out if the regulations had changed. I found out the regulations had not changed and had fun reminiscing with another old-timer.

In summary:  Audio vacuum tubes are not a federally regulated or California regulated waste.  Therefore the chances are very good (but not guaranteed) they are not regulated in any given state. That means household waste collection sites would probably  if you tried to dispose of tubes there and would not know what to do with them.  Of course it does not hurt to check with them if you have a lot of tubes to dispose of.

Thanks to all who expressed concern and desired to do the "green thing".  :thumb:

I would have to imagine if it's not regulated in California then chances are pretty good they're not anywhere else but like you said it couldn't hurt to ask but I'm pretty sure my town's recycling coordinator won't know either.
Thanks for all the responses :thumb:
