Newbie question about passive subs
« on: 30 Apr 2004, 10:49 am »
In a fit of Ebay fever I bought a pair of old Audio Concepts "Pulse" passive subwoofers.  They do not come with a passover.  My source is a Yamaha RX-V795 AV receiver which has LFE out but no kind of crossover as far as I can tell.

What do I need to get them going at this stage in a HT setup?  Just a power amp or do I also need some sort of crossover as well?  Would my best bet to get a pair of plate amps and affix them somehow to the subs?

Or would my best solution be to retire these and get or build a conventional powered subwoofer?

Space and $ (two kids in college) are at a premium in my setup.

the lfe out  works as the crossover-at least on my yamaha, hook up a amp and have fun  no reason for plate amps if the yamaha is doing the work of a crossover , so a standard amp will work-100wpc would be a good minimum for power.i have used a harmon kardon pa2000 as a sub amp and they work great, find them under 200 bucks on ebay and u-bid
