I had the exact same problem with my Oyen / Mac Mini 2010.  It was a faulty (and new) firewire cable.

Thanks for letting me know.  I'm feeling better about just replacing the cable.

Wow!  Oyen was MEGA fast and sent me brand new drives.  I'm back to listening to beautiful music again.
