TITANIC...IN 3D
« on: 28 Nov 2011, 10:57 pm »
GF and I saw the trailer for this before Hugo. I have a grudging respect for the film, if only for the sheer magnitude and scope of vision and ego required to make a film of that caliber. However, once was enough for me.

That said what we saw was THE. BEST. 3D. CONVERSION. EVER.

The 3D looked better than the BEST films we've seen that were SHOT in 3D except for, er, that
other movie Cameron did couple years ago...

Fact is, only Cameron should be allowed to make 3D films as he os clearly the only person who knows how to do it RIGHT.

Amazing. I have to give the guy credit. He is a technical genius. That he is also able to make outstanding films with great story and performances probably makes him the all-round greatest filmmaker alive (yes I know we all have our own favorites - I am just going by accomplishment across the board). And I don't even like the guy. But then I remember he did ALIENS.

Ugh. Now I have to put up with Kate and Leo AGAIN (I suggested my gf go see it with her mom. Shot down.)

I am loathe to say this as a red blooded man, but Titanic's love story is the only one I can really enjoy, because I let myself imagine that it really happened that way. Given that, it's an awesome portayal of a historic event and one that fascinated me as a kid and still does.

I know I started to get all sucked in, and when the camera pulls up as their holding onto the rails and ship starts to sink and Leo's like 'don't let go' and the groan of the ship. In 3D it was heartbreaking.

Ugh. I need to watch some football.

I must be the only guy in America who didn't see the movie.  Is the 3D version enough of a reason to check it out now?

Yes.

Regardless of the eye-rolling prospect of sitting through a 3 hour love story, it is a towering technical achievement and worth seeing. The 3D scenes that were shown did exactly what they should do, underline and enhance the core narrative and dramatic intent. So if you were so-so about seeing it before, I wouldn't say the 3D is a game-changer but it will make an already compelling historical event even more so.

Actually, I'm the other guy in America who didn't see the movie. 3D or not, near the end of the movie,  [*SPOILER ALERT*] the ship sinks.

Make that three (Musketeers or Stooges).  I have not seen the movie either. Although I think "love" scenes in 3D could be interesting.  :eyebrows:
