I was just saying that whenever Tebow has a great game or great series to win a game everyone finds reasons to not give him credit. When he has a bad game the same people have no trouble assessing blame.

I totally agree with you on this one :thumb:

Why all the spears and jeers?

The guy is a winner!

Give him credit for it!

Hiesman Trophy winner...NCAA Championships...2nd year NFL quarterback who came in at a time when Denver was done, made it to the Playoffs, and lead his team to a win!

And yet he is bashed and mocked by grown adult men!

Seriously?

Chris

Yep, I agree.  Whatever happens next week, this guy is a proven champion and a winner.  He's a 24 year old kid finding a way to win in the NFL with tean not many people gave a chance win anything this year.  He had 316 yards in the biggest day of his pro career and played with poise all day.  I'm not a Denver fan but it's hard for me to not root for Tebow and the Broncos after all of the flack Tebow has taken this year.

So Tebow and the Broncos are coming back to Gillete. It will be a good test for a theory many have expressed about the last time they played the Pats in Denver.

Denver was supposed to win, but God was distracted by Kim Jung-il causing a fight at the Pearly Gates when he found he wasn't in the list.

My wife is  huge Fla Gator fan so you can imagine what I go through with Tebow.  :thumb:

I just point out to her that Mr. Hernandez of the Patriots, the other TE Tom likes to throw to, was also a Gator AND the favorite target of Mr. Tebow.

Tim Tebow doesn't scare me at all. I understand his religious convictions, I don't share them but that isn't HIS fault. That kid plays with more heart than most pros, and sometimes that is all it takes. Eat yer hearts out, Tebow haters!

His offense is tailored to his strengths. The fact nfl teams aren't used to seeing it works in his favor heavily right now.

It's not just a matter of teams not being used to seeing it though.  The option can be contained as we saw in the last few weeks, but doing so more or less requires committing 8+ to the box and thus leaving yourself in man coverage downfield. If - and it's certainly an ongoing question - the QB can pass against man coverage in addition to running the option effectively, it's a package that is just plain difficult to defend. The Broncos receivers (at least Royal and Thomas) are fast enough that most teams will struggle in man coverage against them.  We'll have to see whether this performance was an anomaly or actually indicates that Tebow is developing enough passing ability to complement the option and make it more of a long-term strategy.

You know if I am the opposing team I let them run the option all day and I play the pass.
What amazes me is how much Tebow puts himself out there and isn't getting hit hard more often, I find that amazing really.  But if the Broncos want to keep putting their potential franchise QB in harms way like that then other teams should be more than happy to oblige. I know he's built like a RB but no matter once you become a runner all bets are off.

I seriously thought Harrison was going to line Tebow up in the game and do some damage but Harrison went inside and Tebow went outside twice.  I don't know why Harrison fell for that.
I hope the guy stays healthy but if I were a Denver fans I'd be holding my breath every play but for some reason I think they think he's beyond injury or something.

This guy is nearly 250 lbs and very athletic.  He is like a fullback physically and is very tough.  He will never be a pocket passer like Marino or Manning and his only chance of succeeding is to play in a system that exploits his strengths and minimizes his weaknesses.  Yesterday's game was the perfect mix of running and passing.

Any QB can get hurt. Stafford is far from a running QB and he has been injured a lot on freak plays. If Tebow can keep defenses off balance with the run threat and throw the ball with some accuracy, he can win games. If he stays in good shape and has a little luck, he can play this style without getting injured for a few years the same way 250 lb running backs can do it.  Then again, he can have a career ending injury on the first play of next week's game!

Yesterday's Pittsburgh defense was dinged up but they were still a good defense. I could not believe how well Denver moved the ball against them.  Tebow is essentially a rookie QB and he is going to have his ups and down.  He knew enough to read the defense in OT when there were no Safeties back and the second Thomas made the cut to center of the field he was WIDE open and Tebow read it perfectly!  He delivered a perfect strike and the rest is history or legend.

Tebow is a winner and he is only going to get better as his ability to read defenses improves along with his throwing accuracy. From what I hear, he is a tremendously hard worker. The guy has been a winner at every level.  I don't think his success is a fluke.

Stafford is a year younger and had one of the best seasons any QB has had. While that is sort of due to the times we're in (like baseball in the 90s/early 2000s), it's directly comparable to Tebow's successes. True, he is not a pocket passer and as you've pointed out, he can only have a few successful seasons being a runner/thrower instead of a pocket passer. Should you change every aspect of your offensive squad around one player who may or may not even be very good? This is the NFL, these guys are huge and even though the league is putting bubbles around each QB to protect them, things happen and players naturally wear down. Pittsburgh didn't play very well and Denver has had success against bad opponents mostly. That fact combined with his play is not winning guys like me over. He was not that accurate with his passes, the WR were so open vs. the Steelers they had time to adjust. He had some well thrown balls, sure, and that drop by his WR on an easy catch was one of them.

Overhyped players annoy me, but it at least keeps me interested in the playoffs I have to admit. It's a down year for football and anyone can win. Good luck to the Broncos and Tebow! I'll look forward to more games where his passing statistics mirror passages from the bible.

This is exactly how Detroit beat him this season. Unless you have a team that struggles scoring, make them run it, put some pressure on the QB.

Hey Cujo,

Stafford had better stats than Tebow but who is playing next week after a heroic victory and who is watching the game after a humiliating loss?

Stafford is good but he is a china doll and I don't expect him to hold up over time.  It also didn't hurt that he had Calvin Johnson, the most dominant receiver in the game to throw jump-balls to, in a freaking dome!  Caleb Haney would have put up 4000 yards if he was throwing to that guy!

Also, how many late game comeback victories does Kyle Orton have?

Yeah...Tom Brady has Wes Welker. Brees has several great WR and Rodgers does, too. Their stats don't count? What percentage of passes went to Calvin Johnson this season? That's a bad argument.

The Steelers and Broncos are not great teams this season. Neither was Detroit. I think Detroit would have easily beaten either of them, however, they were put against arguably the second best team in the post season.

Tebow's not winning these games, but he's playing good enough to win. There's a difference. He's this season's Trent Dilfer perhaps.

I watched Dilfer play for years. Never saw him orchestrate a single game winning drive as Tebow has done so many times this year. Never saw Dilfer put up 316 yards passing, 50 rushing, no turnovers, two passing TD's one ruching TD in the biggest game of his carreer. And he is essentially a rookie.

Your argument only illustrates your bias.

Essentially a rookie? He's older than a QB who threw 40 touchdowns and had some of the most yards thrown in history.

Statistics today are a bit different than from throughout Dilfer's career.

Show me one game where Dilfer performed as well as Tebow did yesterday.  Dilfer was solid but nothing special. I know the game is different but Dilfer was never considered one of the best in his time. He is mostly known as he least talented QB to lead his team to a superbowl.  Right?

Also, Tebow is a rookie in terms of experience not age. He is still adjusting to the pro game.  The only way to do that is to play in pro games, unless your name is the great Dan Marino.
