Looking for a MC low output cart for a stock techie, I'm bit confused with all this compliance stuff and arm mass etc

Any ideas what works and what to avoid, listen to all sorts but not that much classical

Cheers

While many may argue, I've had excellent luck with the Denon DL-103R.  Also good luck with the latest Ortofon in about the $300 range.  You might even find a great deal on an NOS Ortofon MC-20. (also blue)  The new ones can be had for about $750, but the old ones aren't half bad either.

Hi,
With an effective mass of 12g, you can use just about any modern and most vintage carts. If a 103 works on there, you can probably use just about any low compliance cart. If you want more mass, you could try a heavier headshell like the Sumiko. That would add about 5g to the headshell weight, but you might need some additional weight at the other end.

More important is finding the right sound for your system, and output that's good with your phono stage. Of course budget is a big consideration.  :?:

If that's the case your selection is rather limited in a LOMC, even if you go used. The 103 is favored by some, for musicality. This AT I suspect would be more detail oriented.

If you can use a HOMC the SAE 1000 is said to be a steal at $200.

Hmmmm.....   taking a quick look @ Needle Doctor, I see there's a line ranging from cheep/cheerful (SH-4 @ $36) to not-so-much (LH-9000 @ $199).  Can I ask for your insight on which you are speaking of?

Sincere thanks.
