For the speakers to sound any good, you MUST post pictures.  Danny has an imbeded micro chip that he activates once you start to post pics and THAT takes it up a level in sound.   :green:

Take your time and hook up one voice coil at at time. the woofer wiring is a little tricky. check everything twice and use a battery to check the phase of the drivers. oh yea, almost forgot, enjoy the process. :thumb:

I was hoping to hear a disposition on these caps from someone who has a handle on room treatments. I was concerned that when you take the "shrill" out, you lose the correct timbre of horns, cymbal and upper octave piano strike.....do tell. The correct decay is said to be .2-.5 second, do you notice something in this regard. Oh, and are you running tubes anywhere and/or solid state ?

Danny,
With my V1s being driven by a Bottlehead 2a3 I never have any stridency issues.  Do you think going with the Jupiter caps would offer any improvement?

Best,
Ed

Are there pics of your completed Super Vs?  I seem to recall an early pic of an interesting method of mounting the coax but no completed pics.

The Jupiter cap is just a more lush and smoother sound.

For the standard V-1 the cap value is larger (4.7uF) so it is more expensive. The 4.7uF value is $105 each.

tasar,  Is the timber and such perfect, I can only say its the best I have ever heard.  As for the rest of my gear I run a Class D amp with a Dodd buffer.

ebag4,  I haven't made any headway on my Super V construction. I travel for work in the spring, summer, and fall then I take the winters off.  I just finished my work season last week so now it's time to finish my speakers and many other projects.

This is for synergy.....

Dont know if you have your subs hooked up yet, but this diagram helped me a long
time ago when I did my woofer wiring. My scanner is down so I just took a pic,
hope you can make it out:

Hey Ed......can't wait to hear your 2A3s into the V. Given different components and room treats, the results will be as subjective as our tastes for music types. I guess I'll mount both types, maybe a switch between them ?

Please don't tell me that.  I built my crossover network right before the upgrade came out.  Could you post your thoughts on what you think the differences are?

Thanks,
MT

The main two differences I hear with the new Jupiter caps and the new coil added to the midrange circuit is, one, the transition from mid to tweeter is better, seamless, adding depth and solidity to images.  Second is an overall smoothness to the sound, to me, in my way too small room, the Super V was a little bright and overbearing to the point I was considering moving to a different speaker but with these changes to the crossover I'm extremely satisfied with the sound.

I am going to have to open the back of my Co-ax, I was one of the first to build the original V-1 with the rear firing tweeter, this will mean a x-over change.......the Jupiters would make a nice X-mass gift from my wife.......I'll go thank her right now...

Hey Dave, be sure to bring your SuperVs with you so I can hear a pair .  I will email you with possible dates around your timeframe.

Was it difficult to make the swap on your original crossover network layout?  Is it just a one for one swap (cap for cap)?

Also, would you care to share what settings you are using on your sub-amp.  I'm sure this has been discussed before but I couldn't find anything other than Danny mentioning setting the V2 at 90 crossover and and 180 phase.  I'm just hoping to get a good starting point if nothing else.  Half the stuff on there I'm not even sure what it means.

one more thing, It's funny that you mentioned the transition from mids to highs.  I know this is not a good way to evaluate anything right now, but I only have one speaker at a point where I can listen to it (I'll get the other one done this weekend.  I almost broke my back doing the first one by myself).   Just for the hell of it I hooked it up to an inexpensive Cambridge Audio amp (My Dodd stuff is hooked to my OB 5's for now) two nights ago.  I had another speaker for my right just for some semblance of balance.  There did seem to be a kind of space, for a lack of a better word, between the mids and the highs.  I think I know what you're talking about.  I can't quite put a finger on it.  Maybe I should just get the upgrade now and get it over with before I get everything buttoned up.

My OB 5's are absolutely seamless in that regard.  I don't remember them being any different that way during the break-in period either.  The bass though coming out of just one speaker is still like "Holy Moly!".   I got the dog next door barking.

The cap is a one for one swap. Then there is one inductor (a small one) added to the end of the woofer circuit.

Send me an e-mail to respond to and I will forward over to you a photo of one of my amps so that you can copy all of the settings.
