  • I don't listen to audio, I listen to music.
My Jerome power supply arrived today and I went to Rat Shack and picked up a new end/connector. Do I just cut off the end on the power supply and?
Looks like more than 2 wires might be coming out of the power supply!

Cutoff the end, strip the wires a little to bare them, plug in the Jerome, then use a multimeter on each wire to determine their voltages. Use the ones you need, ignore the rest.

Well that sounds easy enough, I will give it a go and post the results!  :D

Yep, its not hard.  I think the Jerome is 5v center positive.  The sleeve get's connected to the ground.

The Logitech power supply puts out 4.92 volts and using the black and the brown wires from the Jerome power supply, it puts out 5.22 volts. I am assuming black is negative!
Is this correct and if so, is the 20 more volts OK for the SBT?

Anyone have a response to the voltage difference, is the 20 more volts ok for the SBT or will it blow it up!  :bomb:

The voltage difference is 0.22 not 20. There is no problem with 5.22 volts unloaded coming out of the Jerome.

There are many internal regulators in the Touch to adjust the voltage to what is needed for different circuits. A less than 5% variance from nominal voltage will not matter.

SUPER thanks Wayne1!
Am I correct using the black and the brown wire? That is the only 2 that come close to measurements needed.
I must have had my volt meter on the wrong measurement.

Brown is + and Black is ground.

If the slight overvoltage bothers you, there is a potentiometer inside the case that can be adjusted to get the exact number you want. I would only do that when the power supply is actually plugged into the Touch and working. There usually is a drop in voltage once current gets drawn.

Thanks again Wayne1, It does not bother me as long as it does not bother the SBT. I will ask it when it is running!  :icon_lol:
That makes sense that it will drop when a load is on it. I am ready to give it a go!

What size Radio Shack plug is that (just in case I decide to mess with my unmodded Jerome?  thanks

I used size "N".
Thanks again Wayne1, it works great! Bummer is, I did the 7.7.0 update at the same time as the power supply install, but all I can say is wow! Whichever did it or if it is a combination, what a huge improvement in the sound! Not sure I want to do the Soundcheck 3.0 mods!

Getting rid of the switching supply usually improves the sound of a Touch. Most people feel it extends the bass and gives better imaging. This corresponds to lowering the noise the switcher adds to both AC and DC power lines.

There are additional improvements to be gained by improving the parts used in the Jerome PS. I have just figured out a way to fit a Bybee Music Rail inside the case. This is a MAJOR improvement to the sound of the Touch. Far more natural with most of the "digititus" removed.

7.7 is a bit better sounding. The TT 3.0 mods help a lot if you can live with the downsides of not using Wi-fi, no display and no playing of files about 24/96.

I just received my Jerome PS and am going to change the connector.  From this thread it appears you are cutting off the din connector at the end of the cable farthest from the box.  For a center ground connection am I correct in soldering the black ground to the brown lead to the outside?

What do I do with the unused leads?
