Matt, last time I left around midnight

I'm not planning to be over until 4 or so.  Stop by if you haven't heard Ryan's designs, good stuff.

No clue how long it will go of course...

Hello,
Good to hear from you Bob.  I am doing well and I had a good time at Ryan's event.  I listened primarily to the Auroras.  They are a combo of an 8" Vifa woofer with a silk dome tweeter in a wave guide.  They provide an image that is as close to a live performance as you can get.  Some of the things that stood out to me were:
a) the clarity of a triangle in an Ella Fitzgerald number.  It was almost startling
b) String bass was produced so that you could close your eyes and feel the finger work by someone that knew what they were doing with the bass
c) Piano in the lower registers produced clearly and powerfully
d) Acapella men's choir reproducing the power and intimate layers of the different voice ranges.

This speaker does just about everything well and I cannot think of any negatives. The bass is powerful and full.   I don't believe that a sub is needed.  The crossover point is lower and is seamless.  The tweeter is wonderful.  The outstanding thing about it is that it does not stand out.  It does a beautiful job without drawing attention to its self.  Overall, I would be very happy with the Auroras.
Howard
Thanks to Ryan and Heather for their hospitality.  I enjoyed meeting some new people.  I look forward to the next adventure.

Here's a picture of the new Auroras.  That Vifa woofer could really pressurize the house.  Very nice, Ryan!!!!

Good to talk to Steve from SAS Audio Labs again and hear his amps and preamp.  You can see the 11A preamp and 50 PP amp (EL156 tubes) doing the work being fed by a Squeezebox and Xindak DAC.  Really a nice sound in the front room.

Thanks again and see you guys soon.

Thanks again to Ryan & Heather for hosting another marathon event   :thumb:

I showed up late but there was still plenty going on.  The Aurora's did sound awesome.  Later on we got stupid with some hip hop.  good stuff. Their shape is intoxicating.

The RAAL continue to impress my ears, and of course the SAS audio gear.  Sais something when the same amp/preamp combo can be placed in 2 totally difft rooms, and still perform flawlessly, with difft speakers.

The valley sucked me in until late again.  last night Bob in StL hosted Darrel Hawthorne & his wife Diana, so I hung out with them after Ryan's.  Didn't get home until nearly 2   :duh:

Another great time!  Thanks so much to all who came ... again special thanks to Ken, Bernie, and Steve.  Your help in the morning really helped Ken, sorry to put you to work though.  And Bernie, Steve ... the gear sounds fantastic and really meshed well with my speakers.  I thought the Cirrus downstairs were sounding especially good, the electronics were doing their job perfectly and let the speakers completely disappear.  They also had a great rich and full tone in the bass that a lot of other gear hasn't been able to do as well.

I'd really like to hear what you all thought of the Cirrus.  For many of you, it was the first time listening to them.  This pair didn't have all the upgrades, and only had a few hours of burn in (I finished them about 4:15am the night before), but still sounded incredible I thought.

HA!  That's not work, that's fun.  I always learn so much every time I visit your place, both from your knowledge and listening to what is possible in hi-fi.  Of course putting holes in paper and pop bottles, doesn't hurt either!  :thumb:

Here's some pixs of the event.

I would like to thank Ryan for hosting the openhouse (and the hard work till 4am) and all those who attended. It was a pleasure meeting and talking to all.

One thing that I think is overlooked is that Ryan's speakers are not only seemless in their presentation, but have very little, if any resonance problems in their response, from my observations, which is very good. Nice job Ryan.

Again thanks to everyone who hosted and attended Saturday.

Cheers.

Steve brings up a really good point.  I thought the Cirrus is the best design i've heard at Ryan's.  The big RAAL & super woofer produce large & complete sonic images, so cool.  Especially considering they were just a few hours old.

Taking a tour of Ryan's house & workshop is educational, so cool to be able to peek inside the cabinet designs.  There's a lot going on inside to make them resonance free.
