Running Touch remotely
« on: 16 Sep 2011, 06:00 pm »
I recently purchased a Touch and am trying to figure out how to run it remotely. My touch is run through a laptop that act as it's server. I have another laptop that I use all the time and thought it would be nice to be able to control the Touch via the non server laptop. I installed Logitech server on #2 LT did a scan and the music is seen but the Touch and SB3 is not seen. What I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Mark

No need to install the server on your laptop.  All you need to do is enter 192.168.1.xxx:9000 as the URL in your browser, where xxx is the last 3 digits in the IP address of your network router.  That's it.

Another option for controlling the Touch from the second laptop is to install SqueezePlay (download it here) and attach SqueezePlay to the Touch. It gives you exactly the same interface as on the Touch's touchscreen.

I've tried that but it is not working. I am told could not connect.

Thanks!

Would love to, but do not have either one. Heard great things about them though. Maybe someday.

Thanks

Thanks, I was wondering where to find that file. Can it be used to control the Touch on the stereo system or just to hear it on the laptop?

I believe the last three digits should be the IP address of the computer running the SB server, not the network router. You can find this in the SB server control panel if you are not sure what it is. Be aware that if the IP address of the computer changes, then you'll need to change this also when you access it remotely... that's why i've set the computer with my SB server to have a static IP.

In regards to using your laptop as a controller, try doing the following on the computer where your SB server is located.

1) run "ipconfig" in a command prompt window and check that you are using the right ip address (assuming you're using windows).

If everything looks good, then

2) turn off your firewall and see of it works.  If it does, you will need to create an exception in your firewall.

Oops... You're right about the ip.

You can just try entering 100 thru 107 in place of the xxx from above.  That is the range of numbers that will work.

It can do both. There's a 'Choose Player' menu item in Settings that's used to select the player that the program is controlling. When you first start SqueezePlay it will be controlling itself, but it can be used to control any Squeezebox player on your network. You can tell which player it's controlling by the name across the title bar at the top. You can also give different players different wallpaper in Settings > Screen > Wallpaper. For convenience, the Choose Player menu item can also copied to the Home menu by holding the mouse button down until the context menu comes up and selecting 'Add to Home Menu'.

I now am able to access the Touch via a browser, but something happened. I am no longer able to access "My Music" through the touch remote control it give an error to turn the computer on, and load the server program. I have no idea why. And the funny thing is that I can access "My Music" through the browser. Any ideas on how I can get it working again on the Touch?

Thanks,

Mark
