Changing BDP-1/2 from 115V to 230V operation
« on: 20 May 2014, 12:47 pm »
Hello!

I would like to know if BDP-1/2 machines for the US market (115V) can be changed to work in Europe (230V)?

If so, how complicated would it be to perform the change and would Bryston be willing to do it if the machine is under warranty?

Cheers!

It is not something you could do yourself - the distributor in the 230 volt country would have to do the conversion as they know the safety issues that have to be addressed.

Hi James!

The machine would be bought in US and then sent directly to Bryston in Canada for the modification and then sent back to the same location in US. Could you do this?

Alternatively, would someone close to Croatia be able to do this without affecting the warranty?

Cheers!

Hi

No I am sorry we can not modify 120 volt units to 240 knowing they will be shipped overseas.  All overseas sales have to be through our authorized distributors in each country.  It undermines our whole distribution network to do that.

Hi James!

Oh yes I understand that. However, I forgot to mention the machine would be bought used.

Best,

HI

Then it would have to be done by the distributor in the country it goes to.

The power consumption of a BDP is pretty low, you could just buy one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Power-Converter-Adapter-AC-110V-120V-to-220V-240V-Up-Down-Volt-Transformer-100W-/280974820551

That might work but having this nice machine hooked up to a 10$ converter hardly makes any sense. There might be some noise in the AC that would compromise the sound quality and somewhat nullify the whole concept of having a high-quality digital transport.

Hi James!

Thanks for your help! I will investigate and report back but I think I will go for a new machine to avoid unnecessary complications.

Cheers!
