effective mass

Yes, we have a winner. Would you care to elaborate?

Roger
I am intrigued and bewildered by the topic and have toyed with the idea of both servo and ripole sub-woffers to match my acoustats, crossing over below 50Hz. Mainly because I have limited power to run the panels rather than major dissatisfaction with the bass quality.
Despite what you have said above and the "effective mass" answer I am still struggling with the F=ma. While mass does not change, I am not sure what a flat frequency response represents in terms of, is it constant amplitude of wave, therefore displacement, or is it constant energy, therefore area under time displacement curve? Please excuse my ignorance but for some reason I have either forgotten or never grasped what this is. Silly after over thirty years of fiddling with stereos.

Cheers
