I finally have power
« on: 2 Sep 2011, 11:11 pm »
Anyone else without power from the hurricane that hit the east coast USA? I lost power last Saturday and was just starting to use my new BDP. I also sent my BCD in for a new display and received it Tuesday.Of course I have been a frustrated audiophile for 6 days but I got a chance to fire up the system today!
Yeah! :thumb:

That must be a huge relief.  Hope you didn't suffer any significant damage.

My only damage was my home theater system. The subwoofer, amp and preamplifier. They were Denon components,Monster subwoofer.I had a cheap surge protector. My Sony Xbr survived......other than that just cleaning up the yard and refrigerator.

At least half of my NJ town was out for several days, luckily not including me.

I was brave (reckless?) enough to leave my system powered up throughout the storm, however I have what I consider to be the absolute best point-of-use surge protection money can buy, a Torus RM-15 (of course, I enjoy other benefits from this device as well). But don't forget the best defense starts with a whole house suppressor at the panel!

Mmm.. the first thing i'd do when i hear the distant rumble would be to pull the plugs of all my valuable electronics from the wall..  including the Torus, it qualify as one of my valuables too.. :green:

No argument there, I'd almost consider my Torus INvaluable since my budget for power treatment would not permit me to replace it any time soon. What I find most satisfying (and comforting) about the Torus, the elegant simplicity of the design, is also perhaps it's biggest advantage when put up against the growing range of power gremlins out there. This thing is about as bulletproof as they come.

On a side note, as is typically the case with hurricanes, there was not a rumble to be heard from Irene. But boy did she give us a drenching! Downed lines, damaged transformers and flooded substations are nothing to take lightly of course.

Me too.  I always unplug my electronics from the wall when there is a storm or when I am away from the house.  I use Zero Surge for protection, but unplugging the equipment is the safest route.

Best,
