Need help in moving itunes library
« on: 24 Jul 2011, 05:49 pm »
Hi,
I wonder if some Mac experts could help me move my itunes music library from my MBP to an out board Oyen HD. My library has reached 150 GB so I bought a separate 500 GB firewire HD. My plan is to get a new Mac Mini down the road. I use Pure Music and a Tranquility DAC. My computer skills are basic so I would need some detailed info.
Thanks,
Boris

I just moved mine from an Oyen to a NAS.  This is a great article.

My $.02..
1) basically point it (in preferences, advanced) to the new Oyen drive, empty currently..then
2) consolidate (under file-organize-consolidate) in which itunes copies your files over to the new destination.  Then delete the old ones manually.  This allows itunes library database files (usually housed under users/user/music) to synch up, etc.

It's all in the article

I just got a new hard drive for my music files. I moved them, then changed the directory in iTunes... it appeared to be transferring the info. But when I look for particular files, they are not in my library (but are on the hd). Very frustrating.

I don't like iTunes generally and prefer Media Monkey- however I want to use my iPad as a controller. Grrr. I would just uninstall and reinstall iTunes, but I have an iPhone synced to it, so I am sure that would cause grief.

Anyhow. I am going to read over the article. Hopefully it will help me out too!
