Nice inexpensive enclosures (these look familiar...)

Okay, I'm not the seller but noticed these on Audiogon.  They are obviously Snell enclosures being closed out for a very cheap price.  These finised speakers sold for $6,000 a pair and I've never seen them in person but they seem to get good reviews for being solid and good looking.  For $65 bucks, they would make a nice foundation for a cool set of DIY speakers.  They were originally made for Seas Excel drivers, my favorites.

The guy has 300 in stock and it might be worth it to check with Danny to see if any of his drivers would work with the enclosures.  Holes are already cut so options might be limited.  Also, Phil Bamberg, Bambergaudio.com,  has done some excellent work with the Excel drivers (my Series 5 MTM's are amazing) but I think his designs only uses the larger midrange drivers.  Since the cabinets are almost free, if I was in the market, I'd give Phil a call to see if he has a design for sale that would work in these cabinets.

Cheers,

J

"The LCR7 XL features SEAS XL tweeter and woofers, drivers that solve the mechanical problems causing break-up and distortion ....."

Close, except that the driver series' name is actually the SEAS Excel.

The spec sheet reveals that the cabinet is hardwood veneer over 5/8" MDF panels.  This is the first cabinet I have seen with 1/4" aluminum end caps.  The 1.25" front baffle looks like it might be about half that thickness over most of its area.  This would calculate to an ~ .45 cubic foot cabinet, minus the internal full-length brace.

Still, probably a good deal at the price.

The internal volume would be close to the requirement of the N1X (with 2nd woofer hole plugged), but the larger baffle would probably throw the response off.  The cabinet actually seems a bit small even for the Seas Excel drivers that were originally used in it.
