saw this on the Science Channel today, the manufacturing process at AKG. They're having a How its Made marathon.

wow, very cool...thx for posting!

AKG is based in Austria? I didn't know that...that's almost as cool as being made in Germany :)

Hey!

Yes, I was watching that episode during the marathon today also.

I like this show and have watched many episodes. Beside AKG headphone there are other audio products featured on this show. So far here are what I've remembered seeing..... KR Audio tube, Martin Logan speaker, vinyl LP and speaker driver. Not sure if there are other audio related product showed but maybe.

Take care,

I've come to the conclusion that the producer of How It's Made must be an audiophile at heart. I've seen them make KR Audio tubes, Wilson-Benesch turntables, Martin Logan Speakers, and AKG Headphones.

I'm surprised some of them allowed this. In particular, I always heard Martin-Logan was secretive about how they build those curved electrostatic panels. I'll have to give that one a look. Thanks for the heads-up

Really cool ... but I can see why it would easy to break a solder joint ... it has happened to me more than once ...

Hey!

You bought up a valid point there. Yes, from what I saw on the show they just soldered the wire to a straight metal wire there. They could have spend a few more seconds bending the wire to wrap around the post to make it more secure. And bending the wire right after soldering is not a good thing too.

Take care,

Sweet!   I used to be a "how it's made" junkie, but since my daughter came along it's all about kids shows on the TV...

Thanks for posting that.

here the interesting part total labor 5 minutes from start to end on the headphone so labor is minimal as well as the parts cost. Big time profit in the headphone business

Mine say "Made in Austria" on them.   But they're 35 years old.

Ah okay...that's a bummer. I liked the idea of these headphones being made in one of the most historically significant places on earth, Vienna, Austria!  :(

That's exactly why I wondered, cause Im pretty sure on that video I saw the same thing on a pair they were assembling.

It could be that the cheaper ones are made in China and most expensive ones are made in Austria.

That would make sense for sure.
