The Mule landed in my home town last night. The crowd was mostly young folks but I had to check out Warren Haynes. The new Govt Mule is really excellent IMO. After the death of Bassist Allen Woodey a couple years ago, it was doubtful Mule would continue. The band is now a four piece with Haynes doing the guitar and vocals, Apts on drums, and a new bass player and keyboard player. Excellent concert and the term jam band fits their sets that sometimes just go from one song into another without breaks.

I saw Gov't Mule last month in SC and they were alone.  A great 2.5 hours of jammin'  tunes.  Matt Abts and Warren Haynes are extremely talented guys and know how to superbly play everything from fusion to metal.  You need to see them headline to get a great light and sound experience.

Warren also finds the time to solo and split guitar duties with Dereck Trucks for the Allman Brothers Band.  He's another slide wizard to see if he's in your town.

Dereck's last two albums surprise the redneck southern rock types with mostly innovative jazz, south african and latino influences.  The recording quality isn't the best, but the playing is.

Now where did I put that bong???

Just found that out this morning that he would be with the Dead when the ad for two shows in the general area of Portland Oregon were advertised. One will be opened by the Allman Brothers Band, so Warren will be doing double duty.
