Owners Audition List
« on: 4 May 2011, 10:55 pm »
I was over at the Salk circle and saw people who were willing to let others come hear their setup. I often think it's a shame that none of my friends appreciate my fancy-pants stereo. A system this good should really be heard by more than 1 or 2 audiophiles.
So if anyone is thinking about VR-5 Anniversary speakers and wants to come by for a listen, I live in Virginia outside of Washington, DC. Atma-Sphere MA-1 amps, Supratek pre, Mephisto CD, it's sweet!

Hi Patrick.  I own the annies as well.  Nothing like them in their price range.

I'm in Manila. Anybody interested in auditioning VR-9s with Lamm, EERA CD, and TW LP, VR-4 Mk3s with BAT and Accuphase, Unifield 3s with Valvet and EERA, Unifield 1 with Bel Canto are most welcome :)

I've never heard Atma-Sphere or Supratek even if I am familiar with the 5 Annies but I've heard nothing but good things about them. If I'm ever back in the DC area, I'll take you up on your offer Slappy.

Gavin, I've said this before many times. I definitely could live with Annies for life and be very happy. The law of diminishing returns applies very strongly after them.

I think you are right Jack and believe that more each day.  I can't really improve much on the sound I have now  :thumb:

I've actually had some VSA owners over last Oct during RMAF to listen to my modified 7's and we had a lot of fun.  System improvements so far since then- I now have the 1-box APL HiFi NWO-M SOTA digital player which is unlike anything I have ever heard; integrating Velodyne DD-15 Plus into the system; adding Shuguang Black Treasure CV-181-Z's to replace front 4 tubes in each VAC 300.1.  Sound to me is considerably better than last October - I could probably be talked into another listening session like last year, but only if it includes Albert et al, along with the food and beverages after at a place to be named later..  I have some traveling to do this fall, but will try to be available during the RMAF.  If there is any interest in this, please let me know as we get closer...  :D

Jack,

I'd really, really like to hear that EERA CD player. I know I may be needing to replace my Audiomeca Mephisto soon. It suddenly starting skating and skipping and it's long out of production. Figured out the the grease on the laser sled had dried up...easy fix.
The EERA, can it also be used as a DAC for computer based audio?
Supratek makes, IMO, a remarkably good preamp. A-gon had a giant thread "Preamp deal of the century" on it.

Manilla would be fun.
Regards,
Patrick

I wish it could Patrick. I'm hoping they will come out with a stand alone DAC or the functionality some time in the future. For now, I'm happy listening to CDs on the EERA and files and SACDs through my EMMLabs DCC2.

Manila is GREAT fun! Don't take my word for it though. A couple of guys on the forum will be headed to Manila in a couple of months for work and some R&R on the side. We'll let them give you guys the heads up  :thumb:
