Minimum of 5 discs but prefer larger capacity. The only major requirement is that it has a COAX digital output.

SACD would be nice but not 100% necessary.

Thanks for any and all recommendations.

Greg,

I had a Pioneer Elite PD-F19 (301 disc) changer that worked exceptionally well. Has both coax & optical out if I recall properly. Had one of the quietest carosel mechanics I'd seen (a whole hell of a lot quieter than any Sony I've ever seen. I'm sure the Sony's are good players, but damn are they mechanically noisy!).

I'd still own it if I ever actually used it. But as I never listen to CD's, I sold it after it'd collected dust for a couple of years.

If you're looking to daisy-chain a couple of them together, you've unfortunately gotta use the analog outs to make one deck control the other..

They did quit making that particular model about 4 years ago though. Not sure if I recall what the current Elite 301 disc CDP model # is. But you might want to give them a look see...

I have a Toshiba SD2815 that only cost me $US150 with a 4 year extension on the warranty thrown in (bought in Canada). It's a 5 CD changer with both coax and optical out. Great for use with outboard DAC (I've never listened to it without the DAC). Seems reliable after 2 months of service. The only gripes: the random mode will play 2 cuts from a CD before moving on to the next. I prefer things to be a little more random (1 cut from a CD then on tot he next). It's a bit noisy - there is a certain amount of clanking and whirring when it is changing CDs, but otherwise quiet. Other gripe is the remote seems to be a bit on the weak side - the player doesn't always seem to get the message. Maybe just needs newer batteries. Sounds terrific, but I attribute that to the DAC (Ack! dAck!).

This meets your criteria and then some.

I got one a couple of months ago and just got it back from Empirical Audio.  I might be willing to part with it if you're interested.

I fell hard for something else while it was being modded.
