Binding Post Wrench for Bryston 4bsst2
« on: 19 Apr 2011, 01:30 am »
Hi

My problem is that I have very little space behind the 4bsst2 amplifier to readily attach the speaker wires.

The recommended use of a quarter does not really work too well and slips out of the binding post slots. I tried using the neat little binding post wrench from Audioquest but it doesn't fit the posts on the 4bsst2.

Can you advise me of a proper size wrench that will fit the 4bsst2 binding posts?

Thanks

Rob

One pair of speakers I own uses a 12mm hex head binding post.  I made a great wrench out of a 12mm deep socket with a piece of bicycle inner tube stretched over it for gripping.

Deep sockets are sold individually at any automotive parts store. Be careful how much pressure you apply if you decide to use a handle (rachet).  I just use the deep socket with "magic gripper". There are 1001 uses for old bicycle inner tubes.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I will have to go to the local Ace hardware and work something up I guess.

Actually, I had hoped that Bryston would go the extra inch and include a neat little wrench (like the Audioquest) that would fit their amplifiers' speaker terminals, instead of suggesting the user go find a quarter.

Actually a small wrench included would be a nice touch.
I have tried using a quarter, and while it is 'possible' to use a quarter, it is not a picnic, as the quarter slips out of the small slots pretty easily.
I have noted that with bare wire in the binding posts, i have to retighten the posts every month.
