Hello,

I am trying to get into contact with the person who currently owns the Fosgate FAP-V1 Dolby PLII Tube Processor, signed by Jim Fosgate, numbered 6. This unit was offered for sale in February 2011 on the London Craigslist. A slightly changed advert appeared again one month later (see attachment).

Since I transferred 1720 £ to a bank account in Luton UK on March 30th, I have lost E-mail contact with the person who was apparently selling the unit (see full correspondence in attachment). Obviously, I also did NOT receive the unit (BTW the pretended seller does not even have my postal address).

In retrospect, I believe there are a number of reasons to suspect mal intend. I probably lost my money to someone who is abusing the trust and confidence that audiophiles normally encounter when selling and buying stuff from each other.

Please help me to uncover what really happened here, and to prevent other people to become victim of this kind of swindle.

PS Please understand that I don't want to accuse someone of swindle before having concrete proof, as there is a remote change that the seller is for some reason not able to respond to my E-mails. However, if this Fosgate Unit with its unique number 6, was never in the possession of the pretended seller in the first place, this would definitely prove fraud and allow me to report this to justice.

Sorry to hear about this. But why not report this to the authorities right away. That way they get to look at the case when the evidence is fresh. It's unlikely though that they will find anything or have the resources to track every internet scam.

As the pretended seller might have been using a false name and address (banks in Europe only check bank account number through so-called unique IBAN number), I am currently trying to check on this through an investigation by my bank. If this person actually lives in the UK (which I of course don't know at this moment), I will try and have local police (here in Holland) take action, or I will contact U.K. authorities myself. If, in the meantime, I can find the real owner of this unique unit nr 6., this will enforce the evidence that this is a case of fraude. Hence my request.

I had some exchanges over a London CL ad a few months back over a pair of Melody 845 Monoblocks....and it was definitley a scam.......I asked them for a phone number and a website ( they said they were a dealer), and then they stopped responding. The name in the email was Kevin Pargo.  When I got suspicious I also asked him to take a photo of the units dated for todays date, and that was the end of the conversation. 

I bet it was the same guy.  He said he was a London dealer.     So sorry to hear of your loss and hope you get you $$$ back.  I am just throwing this out there in the hopes that it protects others from the same scam.....we all should give phone numbers and certified PP accounts for maximum protection....
