HT1s, HT2-TL or HT3
« on: 28 Mar 2011, 12:28 pm »
I run my HT system with two Fathom subwoofers, so I was thinking that perhaps I don't need the base of the HT3, but I don't want to give up any clarity in the midrange by going with a 2-way rather than a 3-way speaker system.  Any advice?

Midrange is never an issue with any Salk speaker.  Twin Fathoms?  Get SongTowers for HT duty!

Going to also do 2 channel listening in the HT?  If using the Fathoms then any Salk floorstander is fine.  If 2 channel w/o, then HT3 or HT2-TL.

I listen to my music strictly in two channel with the sub turned off I use the sub just for HT. I went with the HT3 because they go down to 29 Hz. I will be powering them with 2 XPA-1’s, I am hoping they will be here in about 2.5 weeks so I can find out.

Running a full range speaker AND subs might provide an easier integration process (especially concerning phase...someone correct me if I am wrong), but if you put in the time and effort you should be able to blend a speaker like the HT1's just as nicely.  So I guess my vote is the HT1 with RAAL tweeter.  However, if your room is large then it's a toss up between the 2's and 3's, as I believe they'll fill the room easier.  Could you post a room diagram or pictures?

My vote would be for HT2-TL's. They play really deep, and would be easier to place in a room than HT3's. I like the form factor, and so does the wife. It'll also save you some change.

HT1's wouldn't go near as deep if you ever turned the subs off. The HT3's would go deeper, but are harder to place in a room and some don't like the styling (and they cost more). If you basically are going to run them with subs all the time, I don't know that the extra money for HT3's is necessary.

I have all three (newest HT2TLs, Songtowers RT, and older HT3s).

If you can afford it, go for the Ht3s.  You can't beat a great true three way design for the best midrange and bass reach and overall transparency when driven really right.
