SuckerPunch

Even tho this movie got very bad reviews,,, I mean really really bad, I'm a sucker for special effects and it was available in IMAX so I had to see it of course. I was not disappointed in the least.    In fact, my ONLY real complaint is that it wasn't done in 3D, that would been even more incredible in IMAX. I thought the storyline while a sad overall affair was well thought out and I would recommend this movie for anyone who's a special effects buff and likes young girls in skimpy outfits. 3.5 out of 5 stars (would have been even higher in 3D)   :thumb:

I'd be curious to hear more opinions, especially considering the poor reviews.  :o

"while a sad overall affair"

Kinda hard to discuss what effect this had on the reviewers without dumping a load of spoilers, some of which dampened my enthusiasm for it.  Cordially,

Well spoilers are one thing I hate to read so I try and avoid them as much as I can. In other words, I'll generalize.  :dunno:  It was the storyline that the bad reviews had really focused on so I was really only there for the special effects on the IMAX big screen but I found the reviews misleading and for me, I really liked how the whole movie was put togther and how everything tied in. I gotta stop reading those RottenTomatoes reviews before seeing a movie as they tend to pre-jade me. I really wasn't expecting to like this movie as much as I did and had it been done in IMAX 3D, I would be heard pressed NOT to give it 4 out of 5 stars. The special effects were that good and I personally liked the total structure of this movie. For me, this movie is right up there with 300 and Watchmen for producer Zack Snyder.  8)

Well I felt sucker punched as left the theater. For all the little one line "Like nothing you've ever seen before" press clippings that led me to make a snap decision with a few hours to kill it was nothing new and took me half the movie to get into it.  Some visuals were cool but some were not done crisply.  I never bought into the lead character at all she looked about as athletic and sexy as a utility pole.  Never bought her unseen wild dance numbers and surely not her combat skills, bad casting that no CGI can make up for.  Say what you will but  movies like this are why Angelina Jolie is so revered.  I could see where it has it's place and it was not a bad movie thanks to some of the supporting actor performances but not as good as Watchmen by any stretch.  The first 5 mins of Watchmen trounces this entire movie.  Maybe if Tarantino had done this it would have worked.  I walked away saying I knew I should have waited another 30 minutes and seen The Adjustment Bureau. On the up side I'm glad I didn't pay the extra money to see it on the mini-IMAX screen.
