Ground point on Bugle power supply?
« on: 21 Mar 2011, 01:49 pm »
Hi All,

Is there a location on the bugle power supply suitable to tap for a star grounding scheme? The reason I ask is that I recently added cable tv to my audio system and the only component that hums is my Bugle. If I disconnect the cable from the cable box it goes away. This indicates to me that it is a cable problem but I would like to be certain I've done my grounding properly in the Bugle. I use a three prong IEC entry device on my Bugle chassis and a line filter, all the grounds are tied back close to the input jacks except the power supply. Did I botch this? The schematic for the power supply does indicate ground points can I run a wire from that loacation?

If I'm not mistaken you have already made the star grounding. The power supply has been grounded by Bugle PCB. The second wire would be a mistake IMHO.

Poty,

Thanks. I thought that it was correct, I just wanted to bounce it off much smarter folks than myself.

If anyone else is having trouble with cable induced ground loops I've found an inexpensive solution in a Holland Cable Isolator w/ Spike Protection model (CISP). I'll post a follow up once I've tried it.

The best place for star grounding is at the ground lug near the inputs.

Thanks Jim,
I have received and tested the Holland Cable Isolator and it works as advertised. It totally eliminated the ground loop and does not effect the cable signal.
