Hey Y'all,
I was just checkin out my new (used) Isolation transformer/power regulator. It is made my Topaz..pretty big, creates more amps than my gear needs and here are my impressions. Let me know if they are what some of you have experienced with such gear.
1. it buzzes.. but doesnt seems to make it down stream anywhere.
2. it does create a quieter background
3. bass seems more detailed
4. highs are crisper..maybe too crisp?
5. it was hella cheap, so I have no buyers remorse.

sound about right? I am not sure if I love it or not. Nothing seems restricted as I've heard people say they can. Maybe its cause it is huge?

PS, is there anything that can be done to quiet the tranny? It isn't bad enough to hear when the music is going, but if it is easy........

You can try tightening the transformer bolts to quiet it down.

You can try a soft silicone O ring in between the bolts and tranny and tighten them down.  You may also want to try padding some spots with wads of clay rope caulk...Mortite or Dennis brand names, but cheapest (I hear) in Home Depot.

Of course, there is always the constrained layer damping stuff they sell at auto electronics shops and the like (various brand names).  Asphalt shingled glued to eh inside could work to damp the box as well as asphalt sheets (I get mine from Parts Express - cheap). They'll muffle a bunch coming out of there and reduce and sympathetic buzzes if it has a case.

Otherwise, move it far away enough from your listening area not to care. :)
