Hi,
Would you comment on the sonic differences between the various tubes, in your experience with them. I have just recently acquired a swl signature that came with united electric 5687's, stamped made in usa. I haven't been able to get much info on these, except to find out that at one time there were some made by tung-sol.

Unfortunately, I had an issue when I put the pre into my system ( terribly loud hum) and have since sent it to Dan for a thorough going over.
Thanks,
Paul

Paul:
It has been quite a while since I actually had the tuibes in my preamp. I did notice some differences but actually none of the sets were disappointing. The GE's were a bit brighter in the midrange and highs and possibly a little faster in the bass. They made the preamp sound a bit more "Solid State. The Tung-sols were extremely close in sound and all exhibited a little more midrange bloom than the GE's. I preferred the bass on the Tung-Sols. It seemed a bit more subdued but seemed accurate in my mind. Realize, I was just making sure the tubes were good. None got any real burning  in time. Honestly The preamp is so good I could have been happy with any set. I have 4 sets because I planned to have this preamp for many many years and these were backup sets.
I never had any problem with hum from my preamp. Maybe just lucky.  Preamp is not sitting on really close to a Big Power Amp?
Regards,
Jack

Thanks Jack,
I am waiting to hear from Dan at MW as to what's going on with the pre...I'm hoping that he discovers something wrong that he can repair, rather than having to track down the issue in my system.
The pre will not be on the amp (krell ksa 150) but on a separate shelf in the same rack.

When I get some info from Dan, I'll have a better idea as to whether I can purchase any of your tubes, if you still have any left.
Regards,
Paul

Closing this ad while I get the tubes checked by a professional with the Amplitrex tube tester. Rerun the ad when I have the results for each pair.
regards.
