Hello Villamonte,

The stand should be heavy and silent.
Than the Vr 1 is sounding very well and tight.

We use a very special stand under the Unifield One.
Base and top is hard stone or marble.
The pillars are Aluminium filled with leadshot.
Total weight is 50 kg.

Looks good and sounds nice. Ok it cost a bit but the Vr 1 now is sounding better than any other speaker costing much more

Have fun

Those Swans look good.

Hope you can fill them with lead.
You can go to a 'tire-shop' and collect some old ballance lead.

The original stand was about 70 cm tall.
This important for a good bass responce.

Good luck,

Cor

Dear Gavin,

The first is mine, a system with KR, EERA and my Laptop as source, the others are still confidential made by our Photograper Ronald Auee.
I pressed the download-buton to fast. :nono:

Anyway.

The Unifield One looks very good and sounds superior to all monitor speakers I know when placed on this stand.

Regards,

Cor

Back on topic.
I  picked up some USED Target FS 24 speaker stands for 50 bucks (they are $120 new at Audio Advisor)!  I made a platform sized exactly to the bottom of my speakers out of mdf, painted them gloss black and bolted them to the stands - they look awesome.  I filled the tubes with sand and they transformed from marginal to great stands. And you have the option of using spikes on both top and bottom.
No point in spending a lot on stands for a $500 speaker (yes, VR-1's are $500 speakers nowadays)- it won't make that much difference...

For a little more, you can get the Target HR series (they retail for $300 new) that are a lot more hefty and built like a brick s***.  It seems a little silly to spend $300 on stands for $500 speakers though I'd pick these up in a microsecond if I saw them at a good used price.

I've been very happy with Sanus Ultimate Foundations as a good stand.  They're not super cheap, but definitely do the job.  The original Von Schweikert VR stands are not bad, but don't have the ability to fill with shot, etc.

Good question, when I was the UK distributor for VSA I tested the VR-1 stand around various dealers and had it reviewed together with the VR-1 by Hi-Fi News magazine (by technical reviewer Keith Howard), we did not have one favourable review.  I ran this all by Albert at the time but told him I had come up with two options.

Option 1: was a stand made by a company fairly local to me and used extensively by one of my UK dealers for both speaker and equipment stands; Something Solid.  I sent a pair of VR-1's off to Something Solid and they manufactured a stand in their XF range which was custom made for the VR-1's profile.

This stand is simply outstanding at letting the VR-1 breathe, you will get an air of openess you will find hard to obtain on any other stand out there, only problem is it's not to everyones taste visually as it's quite industrial looking and as we also found, does not usually posses the WAF! lol

Option 2: this was THE best stand we EVER came across, the iF Designs Reference.  Regretably, the owner had to close the business due to personal reasons so only a few stands were ever made but I again had a set of VR-1's sent to the owner/designer who came up with a dedicated stand that could have the centre column matched to any of the VR-1 finishes.  This was one of the most techincally advanced stands out there, alot of science went into designing a stand that had zero tonal quality/colouration.  My own set of VR-1's were on a set of these and on demo's at dealers and with customers the setup was usually met with wide open mouths!

Roger Stone who ran iF Designs was a great chap to deal with and put many man hours into the creation of this custom stand, it was a process of matching many component parts together to get every ounce possible from the VR-1's (Roger did conduct many tests and did find that stone and granite was not the best material to use so don't immediately opt for classy looking stone stands).

My advice would be to try and find a specialist stand designer to custom make something for the VR-1.  Stands that we found to kill the VR-1's were ones from Target and Partington, especially mass loaded stands.

Cor: I have my Unies1 on 45cm high lightweight stands. I have tought about getting heavier and higher stands. How much for your specials? Or, any other brand recomendations?
