Just wondering if anyone has either the new Rotel rcd 1072 or the new Arcam cd73? Both of these are within my budget 1ooo$ cnd. What  players  work great with your AKSA's?

Thanks
Paul

IMHO, these will be well below the potential of your new AKSA. I've partnered my 55N with a number of cdps and dacs, incl. CI-Audio, Classe and a high end Sony. In all these cases the AKSA was able to resolve the difference among them. Since your a DIYer, perhaps a mod of the current rave player -- Toshiba 3950/60 -- might work for you? Well within budget too! (see Audioasylum for too many posts on the Toshiba).

Maybe a cheap Rotel, Sony or philips with a coax out so you can bolt on  the Dacsa once Hugh decides to go back to it.

So hugh whats on the boil at the moment? Dac, sub nirvana plus sourcing?

not to mention orders and support, you must be a busy bunny!

If I had the money I'd want then all.

Nick,

On the boil at present, in priority:

1.  Nirvana Plus 100W.
2.  Sourcing... sourcing.... sourcing.........   :cuss:
3.  GK-150/60 silk screening, sourcing fasteners.   :?
4.  DAKSA with Ben.   8)
5.  Instructions for Centre console.
6.  Quarterly Business Activity Statement for the Tax Dept.
7.  Other projects I can't mention......
8.  Trying to lose weight....

Sales were strong last week, less this week, so next week will be busy.

If I had the money, I'd hire an army of technocrats to help......   :shake:

Mervin, I haven't forgotten our deal - hang loose!

Cheers,

Hugh

Its sounds really really good now, It has more slam than I could remember from any of my previous project.
The GK1 is on its best now
I will send you some pic soon as I finalised the connector and the IEC socket. I really like these beast. Its quite heavy as well for a monoblock.

Pauly, I recently got my hands on a Rotel RCD-02. FAB!!!!!

Lodsa detail, much more lifelike than my DVD I was using (which by the way was a step up from my older yamaha 5 disc changer). It has that 'airy' sound to it. I'm happy, maybe your local hifi dealer would let you take home 2 or 3 different models to see which you prefer, a really good dealer will do that for you :)

FWIW I have owned a few bits of Rotel, and have been happy with all their players. They are very well engineered units for the price compared to other things I have auditioned. This is probably semi-useless comparitive advice becasue I've never really seen an Arcam. Best advice is to audition some at a dealer. Make sure you get one with coaxial SPDIF (an RCA-shaped 75 ohm socket) so that you can add on other DACs at a later date. Another popular digital output format is the fibre-optic TOSLINK. Unless the machine has both I would choose the electrical connection: lower jitter, amongst other things.

Cheers,
