iPad Alternative

I'm considering an iPad purchase so I can control music selection on my Modwright Transporter using either the iPeng or Squeezepad app.

Are there any other tablets available that can do the same?

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

There's SqueezeDroid:

http://code.google.com/p/squeeze-droid/

Note that this is a very early software and there will be quite a few rough edges.  It should theoretically should run on an Android based tablet.  But Android tablets are not very mature right now.

Google recently announced Honeycomb, the version of Android optimized for tablets, but it may be a little while before Honeycomb ships on real hardware.

I would recommend you stick with an iPad as it has the most mature and polished ecosystem right now.  Alternatively, wait 6 months and survey the land again.

Isn't Honeycomb already available on the Motorola Xoom?
Reading reviews from Xoom owners many of them cite issues with Honeycomb's performing like a beta release - the iPad clearly has the more mature OS.

Not availible in the states yet ( I dont think). I looked at the weight of the Xoom and its 730grams , kinda heavy compared to the 590gram Ipad2. Especially if your using as a remote.

I would buy the Xoom in a NY minute since I loathe itunes and like the 4g ability of the xoom. But like someone mentioned its the first Honeycomb device, and will prob be upgraded nicely down the road (if you can wait)

Yup, you're right, my error -- Xoom already has Honeycomb.

I'd also agree that iPad and the iPad 2 is the more mature product, platform, ecosystem.  iPad has 65,000 tablet applications available and Android has 100 tablet applications.

To the original poster:

If you want to bet on the underdog and want to suffer through some rough edges then by all means get an Android.  If you want to bet on the more mature, more prolific product today, the leader in this race and the expected promise of continued support and maturity from the applications, then get the iPad2.
