Luxman PD-264
« on: 21 Sep 2011, 05:21 pm »
Does anyone have an opinion on this TT?

I am aware that Luxman is quite respected for some of their high end tables, DD and belt drive. And there's no arguing that they are quite attractive. The PD-264 falls more in the middle of their line.

It is DD with auto lift. This is not semi-auto, the lift is purely mechanical and needs to be reset in order to work. Kind of like the old Audio-Technica Safety Raiser.

My friend has a chance to pick one of these up for $200 in perfect working order, in about 8/10 condition.

Worth it?

No cart?
Speed holds true?
I say 100...
Shallow narrow headshell may not fit all cartridges.
They are elegant.

No cartridge.

Speed is spot on, according to my friend. He tested it.

Really? Only $100. That sounds too cheap to me. At $200 what else do you think would be better?

100 dollars? I made it up, but it is based on a few things.

1. There are no charges for advertising, no fees, etc. for the seller
2. It's not the top of the line model.
3. There are no available parts for it, so it's not like getting A VPI Jr. or any SOTA or a Linn where you have easy access to supplies. If it's broken, it's useless.
4. I like a good deal! Heck, Wayner sent my daughter a direct drive for 40 something bucks a couple of years back!
5. Not have a cartridge is going to add a significant amount to the final working price.

But, if you gotta have it, go for it. About three years ago I way overpaid 225 for a lower level Denon DD, but it did have a cart.
