SqueezeServer/Softsqueeze problem....
« on: 11 Feb 2011, 07:05 pm »
I am using squeezeserver 7.5 and softsqueeze 3.7 on my PC.
When ever I am playing music afer about 5-10 minutes the music stops.
When I look at the server the player is still counting but it counts about 5 seconds and then goes back 5 second and starts over like it is stuck.
It is at random times in a song and doesn't matter if it's internet radio or music from my HD
Sometimse it will play for hours and sometimes it hangs every 5-10 minutes .
I have tried disabling my anti-virus as I have read that there are conflicts sometimes but that didn't help. I can't check my SB3's as they are not hooked up at the moment...
I'm wondeing it there is a setting in the SC that I can change, I have already thinned out the apps that I was running including I-tunes

Any Suggestions???

Check your power saving settings on the SqueezeCenter server.  Most likely you have a setting that says shutdown the hd after x time frame of idle time.

Thanks for the reply  :), where would I find the powersaver settings?
however I don't think that would be the problem as it stops at different times, sometimes 5 minutes sometimes 60 minutes and if I am playing music I don't think that would count as being idle...Also using both the HD and internet radio...

Assuming you are using Windows, if yes

Click on Start --> Control Panel --> Power Options

You will see options that basically says Turn off Monitor --> after x minutes, Turn off Hard Disk --> never

My understanding of idle is no keyboard and mouse movement activity.  If you walk away from your system after starting music it will most likely not consider that as activity.  If you are using Windows Media Player there is option that says prevent system from going into power saving mode but not sure if there is one for softsqueeze.

As an update I hooked up a SB3 in the garage last night and had it running syncd with my softsqueeze player on my PC and at random times it would hang on both usually in the middle of songs...The counter on the squeezeserver would count up 5 secondd and then back up 5 seconds over and over.
If I advance the song or hit pause and play a couple of times the music starts again...
So I'm thinking  a problem with squeezeserver as it happens with both internet radio and flac files form my HD....
