Any other active speakers that I should look at? I wouldn't require an amp and would prefer to spend that money on the speakers themselves.

What's your budget if you go active?

Max budget of 2500$/pair. Not too bothered if they are used or new.

You will likely be restricted by your budget with choices for active monitors that are promoted to the 'audiophile' user.

I would add Genelec to your list.

Sites that cater to the professional / musician market will have more offerings in your budgeted range.

My research was limited to the pro monitor market rather than the audiophile market, and I agree with davidrs that at $2500 you will find lots of options in the pro marked - it should get you well into the 'very good' range there.

I'd start with Adam, Genelec and Dynaudio.  By researching those and looking at what they're compared to you can get a feel for the character for each and identify other candidates.  The gearslutz forum is a good place to start researching pro monitors.

That is one good looking speaker!  :thumb:

Yes they are - thank you Jake - I raised them a hair and will probably get something to do a hair more.

I generally like the Paradigm sound the active 40s would have been a great buy only if they were available   :(

Mostly they dont seem to be available even in the second hand market. What luck! Beautiful speakers though - wonder why they discontinued it!

Because not enough people bought them? Paradigm has a new powered speaker call the Shift A2 due out soon. Designed specifically for computer use whatever that means.

With a budget of $2500 you could get a pair of Genelecs.

I listened to some genelecs and didn't really like the sound. Found em too analytical. Most vocals sound awesome, but overall it didn't come together for me.  Instead of looking at actives, I am looking for both an amp and speakers separates. If you guys think there are some more I should look at, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks a bunch!

Maverhick,

I'm not surprised by your findings. Actives are not for everybody, but if they do work for one's preferences, they are usually hooked.

Will keep an eye open for possible speakers for your needs.
