Personally, I am a fan of woods that are oft used in fine furniture and usually have a much higher WAF. Natural Cherry, Natural Mahogany and for the really rich looking rooms, Dark stained Mahogany (not red stain). In generally I find red stained wood rarely matches with anything else unless you shop at IKEA.
Medium and dark brown more subtle wood grains usually stand the test of time and don't yield to passing fads. Just MHO, feel free to disagree, but I would LOVE to see a pair of RM40's done in dark stained mahogany like the fine heirloom furniture from NC. Our bed from Hickory White in NC is breathe taking.
