Ford sues Ferrari.

This is a riot. Like anyone would ever confuse the two, or perhaps think any lesser of the truck because of the car. Mebbe they need money.

Ever see a Formula 1 car hauling stuff?.

It's Ford's biggest selling vehicle...possibly the only one that kept 'em afloat during the lean years of the 90's thru only a year ago or so as they hit their stride again. They're gonna' defend that trademark aggressively.

I've been thru enough intellectual property situations to see where this is going....and Ford will likely win the suit against Ferrari (nee, Fiat, it's owners).

Ferrari could've picked billions of permutations of names that didn't conflict with Ford's best selling truck (or any automakers vehicle).  This blunder is likely to cost them if they take it all the way to court.

It's a trail lawyers feast between 2 $$ multi-billion international corporations  :|

Looks to me like Ferrari realized they probably shouldn't have done this, they understand the whole thing, and is doing the right thing. Now we just have to see if the lawyers will let this fade away, or if they convince Ford to pursue this further even though it seems Ferrari is trying to make amends.

 Great one Crimson, Thanks for the link. Good point John. Though if anything I'd think Ford would appreciate the extra press and having the non-F-1 public thinking they build (in conjunction with Ferrari) a truck fast enough to win an F-1 race. I might even trade in my '97 F-250 for one of those bad boys.

I am more surprised to find out that Formula 1 is still around.

I don't see how Ford has any standing to sue.  What's the damage to Ford? An improved brand image?

that issue has been settled. Ferrari change the name of their F1 car.

As a Ford stock holder, I find this thread very amusing. Ford was "the" company that invented the assembly line, and produced some very fine vehicles, some of which where very ahead of their time. Every company that has a brand name deserves some respect and at least a distance from the name. That is what "copyrighting" is about.

For those that have disrespect for one of the last bastions of American manufacturing, I'd suggest you bite your tongue. For others, I'd suggest buying stock in Fordm.'

Ransom Olds had an assmbly line in 1901. Ford was the person who made a moving assembly line work productively.
Precursors to he assembly line were interchangable parts, mostly in gunsmithing in prior century. Then several folks made 'assembly lines' before Ford did.
The big innovation Ford made was to refine the assembly line into a smooth MOVING operating system that saved him money (so the worker did not have to move, the stuff moved past him.)
Anyway I drive Fords, manual tranny Fords exclusively.. And like them. And yes Ford had a prior lawsuit with Toyota over the "T-150" which pretty clearly was a steal of the Ford truck "F-150". So i would guess they would need to defend the trademark.
Unlike Monster Cable, they are not suing any and everybody.. LOL.
(And Monster Cable to this day is reviled for it)
