Dreadful Denon Dilemma
« on: 29 Dec 2010, 02:24 am »
I recently added a Denon AVR-3311C1 receiver to the big screen TV in my rec room. After 4 -5 days of normal operation I suddenly lost the ability to control it by either of its two remotes! I tried unhooking and reconnecting power but that did not help. Next I attempted do a factory reset but several attempts at this did not correct the situation. Denon customer support was polite but had no ideas what to do other than the factory reset. Oddly, their suggested steps to accomplish this differed somewhat from those specified in the owners manual. I am hoping somebody has some thoughts as to what I might try next (short of a ten pound sledge, that is!  :nono:)

Do you know if it's an IR or RF remote?
Anyway:
a] Is the IR lens blocked by an object?
b] Sometimes modern lighting (CFL) or maybe a TV screen can mess-up IR signals.
c] With RF units, EMI/RFI interference can be a problem. Did you or the neighbors get any hew toys for Christmas?

I find that BOTH remotes have to be reset. Denon's customer support completely missed this, suggesting rather that I return the unit!!! Further their manual mentions nothing about this or how to do it. A technician friend managed to figure how to reset one and got the other reset by accident by randomly pushing buttons. What a way to run a railroad!

If you now know how to reset the Denon remote would you kindly post that info here for posterity?  I don't need it, but sooner or later someone will.

I have asked Denon for specific instructions on how to do this. When I get their answer (if indeed they know) I will be happy to post it here.
