The new CD "High Standards" has been mastered, and the "master positive" is being sent to me along with artwork.  For CES I will burn about 50 copies on the "Reality Check" CD burner at low speed (4x) which should give us perfect copies of the master.  This obviates the "glass master" and "stamper" processes which effectively remove end users by two generations from the original sessions.

Visitors to the VMPS/Atmasphere/Bybee Labs/Wywires booth will be able to purchase these trial copies for $10, and Napua will be on hand to autograph them.

I'll report on the sonics of the "master positive" when it arrives mid-week.

The master arrived, and I had opportunity to compare it to a CDR of the session master sent to me a few months ago.  The final master is definitely an improvement top to bottom, and I wish more people had a chance to hear such high quality sound from redbook CD.  It surpasses commercial SACD's I've heard in sound quality, and the songs (try "It ain't Necessariily So", it's classic) are sublime.

The 50 people at CES who will get to purchase low-speed CDR's of this material should consider themselves very fortunate.  State of the art sound meets timeless performances from one of the great jazz singers of our age.

Tomorrow the CES pair of RM50 full Bybee speakers come home from the factory for programming and final tweaking, after two weeks of burnin on the sweep generator.

Today I am scheduled to receive a ModWright modded Sony 5400 CD player to use in our demo, and am very excited about the prospects for our Show sound.

I will post my impressions as the equipment settles in.

Have added the Modwright SACD player to the list of gear.

Looking forward to your assessment.

Here's a terrific video of Napua on tour of Russia in 1997.  The lady can literally burn the filaments out of lightbulbs:

Time to start packing and get on our way.  Six months of prep time, rehearsals, exchanging sheet music, consultations, design time, breakin of the gear, programming the controller and tweaking every adjustment--I'm exhausted, but in a good way.

Two weeks on the sweep generator turned the fully Bybeed RM50's into a wonder of beautiful, accurate sound.  I don't think such a high level of reproduction quality has ever been achieved before (this is the commercial debut of the nanotube quantum filters, and the active DC noise filters for the power amps have also never been on public display.)  The Show speaker pair will retail for $14,900 with the Level 1 DCX upgrades and Bybees--this introductory price will last 90 days.

And of course, we will have the sound of live music for comparison.  No more stringent test is possible, and I'm confident the system will perform in splendid fashion.

I am also leaving shortly.

Looking forward to seeing all the VMPS regulars and newbees.

I'll be there Friday, Sat, and Sunday so stop in and see what it sounds like to reproduce a LIVE perfromance in your room.

It seems like it gets better every year and this is the third consecutive year.

Brian is the MASTER at this type of thing and virtually starts planning for the next year the moment he arrives back from the last one.

See everyone there.
