Need to transfer analogue to digital
« on: 5 Dec 2010, 12:55 pm »
My daughter is doing an animation art project for school and her college portfolio. We need to add music to it and I have a tape of some stuff that would be very appropriate for her short clip.

So how can I transfer this from tape to a digital file cheaply and inexpensively? This is a one time shot, so I'm not looking to buy anything expensive to accomplish this task. Maybe some freeware and some Rat Shack adaptors?

Help!

Thanks,
Bob

How about the tape player's headphone jack as the output to a sound card line level input?
Turn the tape player's volume all the way down to start, then up to a good level.

You can use Audacity to record the sound after connecting the tape output to your PC sound card. Audacity will run on any platform and is free.

Yes, thanks Mike. I downloaded Audacity last night and will give it a try this week. I think that will work for me, but if all else fails I can still pull out the soldering iron and reverse the Analogue to Digital circuitry in my Art DI/O (I turned that off when I did my mods to it many years ago by just lifting key diodes and resistors - easily put back in).

Thanks all.
