Unless there is an issue no service is required.  Usually DRIVES are what wears over time.

Why software, Phil? I don't get it.
I thought the drive was strictly mechanical, not needing computer control.

I vaguely remember an old post by James Tanner when the drives were discontinued and someone asking a question as to why don't they just put in another drive.  This is a very long explanation on how CD players work - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD_player   The drive from my understanding needs to be integrated into the software for decoding the disc.

That's more complex than I ever imagined. Laser positioning, track detection, etc etc

I don't mess with anything overcomplicated.  I had a sticky drawer on an old modded Oppo BDP-83 and opened it up and believe I fixed it (as least no problems in months, although I seldom use the player as it sits in a secondary system that is used more for HT).  I once opened an Onkyo Receiver (still have it in the office system) and had a bad preamp out (solder joint).  I'd have to take off one board to get to it and I just left it alone.  It was easier in the old days, whether it was automobile engines or 2-channel audio.
