Thorens TD-321 Issue
« on: 25 Nov 2010, 03:58 am »
I have a Thorens TD-321 and the belt keeps coming off of the motor spindle. After I power it on it spins for 5-6 seconds and then the belt rides up the spindle and comes off. The table is sitting on a level surface so that isn't the problem. I have tried 2 belts so I don't think that is the issue either.

Any thoughts on what may be causing this or what I can do to fix it?

No.  I have had it for years.

I have seen this happen when the motor/pulley system is not parallel to the platter or belt rim. Could the motor assembly be tipping or is there an adjustment for this?

Try leveling the suspension.  There are three bolts under the plastic caps, one or two caps are under the platter (can't remember exactly) so you have to remove that, then replace and check the level.  Second suggestion, buy a new belt.  Then again, buy a new belt anyway, everyone who has a belt drive needs a new belt.  Lastly and prolly not needed on this model, lube the bearing, prolly won't help, but it might improve the sound.

Motor shaft is bent, need a new motor. New and tighter belt is a temp fix, and it would last for about a week, then when the new belt's stretched enough, it'll slip off the pulley again. It's a common thing for Thorens turntable.
