G'day all, I think I can blame my interest in Amateur Radio generally for this along with my never ending quest for high quality vinyl audio reproduction.  Of late I've increasingly become aware of the importance of good quality electrical connections and I've become a fan of a certain contact cleaner/ enhancer, having run a few tests that confirm that it is an excellent product.

Today I did something that I used to do quite frequently but haven't recently, and that is cleaning the wires going to my various loudspeakers and amplifiers.  On checking today I found that they looked visibly tarnished but not too bad.  Anyway I cleaned them back to shiny copper wires and reconnected them.

The results were 'interesting'.  Not only did I notice a distinct improvement in sound quality but the real surprise was on the vinyl system here in my radio shack and I was stunned to find that a seemingly unsolvable RF breakthough issue had completely disappeared.  Diodic connections!  Regards, Felix.

Speaker wires certainly can act as an antenna, capturing high level signals from local radio stations. Hence, the battle between long speaker wires or long interconnects.

I use De-oxit 5 for cleaning contacts and pots. I agree with you that a good routine in connector maintenance is very important for maximum system performance.
