Bryston and VMPS?
« on: 12 Mar 2004, 09:33 pm »
Thanks to those who posted below in reference to my query about the RM 30. I am left wondering about a few things and one of them is amplification. Based on what I have learned so far, it appears that the RM 30 is fairly demanding on its partnering amp. Since I recently purchased a Bryston 3B STT I dont want to revisit this issue! This is a wonderful amp in my estimation. It is rated at 150 watts into 8 ohms and 250 watts into 4 ohms. Which would best describe the RM 30? Do VMPS users have any thoughts about the appropriateness of Bryston with speakers from this company?

Django,

As both a Bryston dealer and VMPS dealer I have had the opportunity to use both Bryston Preamp and amps with the VMPS speakers with excellent results.

The low distortion, high power, great signal to noise, and solid bass work well with the speakers.

One quality I noticed when going from other amps to the Bryston wa that the "sheen" of metalic instruments, like cymbals sounded excellent.

And of course the bass was solid, dry and deep.

John,

To follow up on django's question, would a 3B-ST (120wpc @ 8ohm, 200wpc @ 4ohm) provide ample power for the RM-30?  Glad to hear the Bryston amps match up well with VMPS.

John,

Sorry - just noticed your other post with the 200wpc minimum.  I guess my follow up question would be whether a significant difference in bass will be recognized with >200wpc?

My 200wpc suggestions stems from my personal preference for "lot's a power", for effortless dynamics and SPLs.

As I acknowledged in the other thread, lower power levels can certainly power these speakers well for most listening.

In fact, also as mentioned, I have powered my RM40s with a 60wpc Bryston with an incredibly good result considering the wattage.
