anyone know how to use the nec 6xe transport?

Hey all,
I finally picked one up and was looking forward to hooking it up to my bud's apogee DAC. I can't figure out how to get any sound out of it! What is the deal with all the switches on the back panel? All I would like to do is either have the analog outs work or the spdif.
thanks in advance,
beat

You need a CD caddie.
If you have one, just put a CD in it, put in the caddie, and push play on the front of the NEC.

There are two analog outs on the back you can connect two, and a digital out.

From what I remember, all the switches on the back are for setting up the NEC to connect to a PC, so you don't need to worry about the for audio.

Bummer!!
I guess I have problems then. There is nothing being generated apparently. I was hoping that maybe some of the switches changed the outputs and it happened to be set for the pc outs. Any other troubleshooting advice would be appreciated.
thanks, beat

Beat,
What does it do?
Are you turning it on, and nothing is coming out?
It is pretty simple to open up.  You might look inside, to make sure everything is connected like it should be.

Thanks guys,
I will that tomorrow when I get down to the office. I Will look for obvious probs inside and try the headphone jack. It acts like it is working fine (lights up, plays, stops, ejects) but there is just nothing coming out to feed the preamp. My old yamaha cdp proves everything downstream is working. It is probably something simple I just have to find out what it is.
I'll keep you posted, thanks again

It looks like someone has been in there before. The jumpers from the analog out and the digital out were just not connected..works great now. Now I just have to find a good deal on a killer dac and i'm set.
Thanks for the input guys,

I bought a NEC 6xe transport a few months ago for $5.00 but never bought a DAC to hook it up to.  Can this transport be considered a high-end transport?

Harmon,

Nope, it's junk!!! Just send it to me and I'll throw it in the trash for ya!!!!  :D  But seriously, it is suppose to be a good transport. There are a couple of folks around here using them with good results.

Enjoy,
