Size question

No, not that size question.  If you have one choice, and only one, no alternatives, using OC 703 DIY room absorbers, would you go for thinner (say 2") but larger area panels (2'x4'), or the same number of smaller but thicker panels (4"x2'x2').  In other words, would you choose to cover more wall area with less absorption, or less wall area with more absorption?

In the 2nd case, you're not covering less wall area with more absorption. You're covering less wall area with absorption that's more broadband.   If ALL panels must be the same and the amount of material is fixed, I'd likely do the 2x2x4" panels.  Really hard to say though without knowing room dimensions, setup, speakers, etc.

Is it not an option to do 2x2x2" panels and 2x2x4" panels?  I assume this is a problem with visuals?

Yes, you're right Bryan.  So I'll rule it quite permissible to modify the question to choosing between less area coverage with a more broadband absorptive versus a larger area covered with a narrower bandwidth absorptive.  The question is meant to be general in nature so one can assume the room to be fairly catholic to audio rooms, rectangular, neither small nor large, the system is full-range, with no restrictions on proper speaker placement.

As for my personal situation, I have no restrictions on anything.  I have a dedicated listening room and no cohabitant to deal with.  Funny tho, I dumped the wife who was always very understanding about audio setup issues for the girlfriend who had issues with everything.  She had to go when I discovered I loved Magneplaners more than her.

I dont have an answer but thanks for the morning laugh! I needed that. Coming from someone that married one that lets me do anything to our living room to achieve the results (even clearing out furniture. tables and the such), I understand the situation, but from the right side of it... Hopefully the next one will understand and you can achieve the audio/girlfriend balance you desire.

Good luck and thanks for the chuckle  :thumb:

LOL.  Nice morning chuckle.

Yes - in general, I prefer fewer more broadband treatments as in almost all rooms, the bottom end is what's most out of line in terms of a balanced decay time curve.
