I've had the N3s up and running for some time now. What an awesome speaker. I have them with the port in the rear. My room is 9'6" x 14' with the system set up on the short wall. So far I've had them mostly about three feet from the back wall, about 6' apart and toed in to aim at my listening chair about 7' out. Any suggestions on how I might better place the speakers?

How about room treatments? Would a set of Tube Traps behind the speakers in the corners be a significant upgrade?

Thx
Dave

Here's a pic. The speakers don't appear to be equally aligned but this is just an illusion. The T.V. is pretty much going to stay despite that being apparently not a good place for it in regards to reflections..... I love my DVD concerts. Maybe one day I'll get the projector system I've been dreaming about. At about where the pic is taken from is a wood and leather rocker that's my listening chair. It put's my ears about level with the tweeters. Behind that is a leather futon for if I have guests over for a listening session or if the wife is less than impressed with my latest antics. (She's let me have this room so I keep those to a minimum). Oh. Forgive the sub. It was just an experiment.

WIDER .... put the speakers closer to the walls I assume? Wouldn't this cause first reflections from the speaker closest to the wall to arrive quicker off that wall while the first reflections of the opposite speaker would arrive later causing a muddiness? The way they are now is pretty much near field listening... trying to take the walls out as much as possible given that I have no room treatment.

Yup.

Just toe them in more. Either way, you are dealing with a small room, so the extra few inches won't add up to much.

Try it. It might work fine. I like a big soundstage.

Tube traps and foam panels on the wall behind the speakers would go a long way.

Here are a few tube traps that I built: http://www.gr-research.com/foam.htm

Thx for the link Danny. Pretty cool stuff. I kind of thought I'd like to give the DIY route a shot.

I have that exact same African shield.

Lol    the wife does NOT like it. Hey. maybe I should stick some foam up behind it, an improvised sound trap! :) The Edirol sound card has been replaced by a Grant DAC-09, tube outs to the Virtue amp. NICE.
