Looking to Demo N3s/OB7s/V2s in Portland, OR area
« on: 28 Aug 2010, 09:10 pm »
I am thinking of trying something new out. Currently have ref 1.5s/Ref Center/GR Subs in my main room and I have a CA340a/N2x combo in the spare room- doesn't get used that often. So I am thinking of maybe selling it all and going just replacing my main system for now as that gets used the most.
I would love to hear some of the other speakers from danny if possible so if anyone live in the area let me know if they are willing to demo sometime.

If you can't find any OB-7s to demo, trying listening to the X-statiks from (the now defunct) AV123. A similar dipole MTM also designed by Danny.

If you do get to listen to some X-Statiks as an alternative and you like what you hear, I think you would absolutely LOVE the OB-7's.

I've got a pair of N3's set up and they are quite a step up from my X-Statiks.

The BG Neo 3 is friggin' awesome! :thumb:

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I might be able to hear some OBs next weekend.

My idea right now is leaning towards the N3s to replace my stuff but I want to see/hear what else is out there before I pull that trigger.

Hey Ruben,
Have you upgraded the crossovers in your Statiks?  I know the BG tweeters are better but those stock av123 crossovers really hold the encore tweeters back from their full capabilities.

Actually, I haven't heard them with the upgrades.  What's involved?

Thanks,

You can do the biggest bang for buck upgrade, which is to replace the resistors and capacitors on the stock XO board with Mills resistors and Sonicap/Erse caps, while adding bypass caps (Sonicap GenII or Sonicap Platinums).  Or you can take it up another notch by building a new XO with Mills and Sonicaps, and upgraded inductors and point-to-point wiring.

I did the bang for buck upgrade on a pair of X-LS Encores with Gen II bypass caps, and it really brings out the clarity.  Those speakers are for sale in the "trading post" section by the way.  (Shameless plug.   :green:)

Yeah, pretty much what se-riously said.  Replace the mid and tweeter caps with sonicaps and bypass them with platinums and you'll hear how truly good those encore tweeters are.  Heck even the Erse caps sound great on a pair of x-ls' I recently upgraded.  But with sonicaps you get more air and better detail.
