Thanks to Lyndon for sending me a PM.  J&R, an authorized dealer, is apparently matching New Egg (which is not authorized and supposedly their sale is over at Midnight today) with free shipping.  I was looking for a newer receiver for the secondary basement system which doesn't see tons of use but has decent stuff in it and the audiophile in me was looking at more expensive stuff (I have a Marantz 7300 OSE there now which was probably more than enough) and this deal was enough to get everything I need in a receiver for a few years.  I'll move the 7300 OSE to the computer.

Phil,

What did you have to do to get J&R to meet Newegg's price?

George - I just said I heard you were matching it and they said no problem.  I even splurged and got the 2 yr. (after the one year manuf. warranty) from Warrentech for $29.99.  I figured for $529.98 with free shipping I know what I'll be using in the basement for at least 3 years.

Lyndon apparently heard about it at AVS.  There is a thread I found.  I didn't want to wait to see how much longer they would do it for.  I was looking at the SC-35 over the weekend (had a 10% off Best Buy Coupon) and didn't want to spend that much.  I've never spent more than $900 for a receiver in one of the secondary systems (Marantz SR6300 in the bedroom now).  The 1120 looks the same as the Elite VSX-32 (which is $50 more list and has the Elite 2 year warranty and faceplate).

Isn't that the same receiver for $450 on amazon w/ free shipping?

http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-VSX-1020-K-Audio-Video-Receiver/dp/B0039XQQX0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1282011673&sr=8-1

The one you've linked to on Amazon is the VSX-1020-K, not the 1120.

ahh, I stand corrected.  I searched google to get a realistic idea of street price and I guess it directed me to that at amazon.

The 1020 lists for $549.  I couldn't pass up this deal.

Have it up and running.  Only watched a piece of a Blu-Ray movie (on a PS3 hooked to it) and have not gotten to do a whole lot.  Played some music too.  SACDs via my Marantz DV9600 and CDs using the DV9600 as a transport and an old MicroMega Duo Pro DAC.  Certainly not audiophile but very smooth and listenable in analog direct.  A laid back mellow type sound (my first experience with digital amps which for my space is good as when the basement was finished due to the way I designed things and electrical codes and capacity, I had to scrap the separate circuit I wanted behind the audio rack).  Easy to set-up with the calibrated microphone and I'm using 6 of the 7 channels in a huge space (basement room is probably a hair under 700 sq. feet - pic in my gallery) and when the height channels are in use (have not played anything with them yet), they are driven by an old NAP amp.  Certainly seems like a winner for $500.
