Custom made Trumpet
« on: 22 Aug 2010, 08:00 am »
Hi,

Well, after my last debacle of importing electronic components from the US and having no backup in Australia (took 10 months to fix) I'm concentrating on my trumpet playing.  My hifi system is good enough anyway and after sinking so much money into it I generally only get minor improvements in sound quality.  I've sold off my Kanstul 1503 signature trumpet and bought this custom made trumpet.  It is a DQ Custom Shop trumpet made by a gentleman who resides in Wichita.

I do think that the US has so many great boutique manufacturers of different products.  I haven't found the range of products in any other country (I do a LOT of surfing)...

This was his first 100% custom made trumpet and previously he had used valve blocks from secondhand trumpets and created some really funky looking trumpets.  I'm a bit of a standard type of person and I decided on a brand new trumpet.  The valveblock is built by Schmidt who are a German company.

The trumpet is set up as a removable/tuning bell configuration and I have bought a 5inch copper bell finished in lacquer and I bought a secondhand Bach Stradivarius 72 bell finished in brushed lacquer.  The trumpet in the photographs looks fabulous and it should arrive this week and I'm really looking forward to playing it.

Regards

Rod

I hope it sounds as good as it looks, it's sharp looking.
