Service issue - question for James Tanner
« on: 16 Aug 2010, 12:41 am »
I've got a very minor issue with my BP6 preamp.  The preamp was purchase by me from an authorized dealer.  The issue is that when the remote control is raising the volume, the volume knob will stick at around 12 o'clock and not rotate further.  Sometimes I can back the volume down and then sort of take a running start and it will zip past 12 o'clock, but if I start at 12 o'clock, the remote will usually not be able to rotate it further.

This is no big deal because I very rarely need volume this high, but occassionally with very old CDs that were recoreded at much lower volume I do set the volume that high.

I just wanted to get your thoughts on this problem.

Thanks for your help.   :)

Hi,

The volume control knob may be slightly out of round on the volume shaft. If you can try readjusting the small screws that connect the knob to the shaft.

Sounds more like the face plate needs a little nudging up, once had it happen on a .5 pre-amp.
Tom, you may have just put the front on slightly off center when you did the switch, very easy to to do if you tightened the the little nuts without the dial in place first.
Just do a visual check to see if there is a slight clearance at the bottom, top or sides of the dial, if so, try giving the face plate a light tap from the opposite direction, maybe with a paperback or something similar, otherwise you may need to remove the cover and loosen the nuts again but with the knobs attached to check clearance.
